EUNAVFOR ATALANTA reported a suspected piracy attack occurring on 9 February on a Yemeni-flagged dhow off the coast of Eyl, located in the northern region of Puntland, Somalia.
The incident is currently under investigation, and authorities are in contact with maritime security partners in the region to assess the situation. Ongoing efforts to monitor and address piracy-related activities in the area are also in place. To bolster maritime security, EUNAVFOR ATALANTA is urging merchant and other vulnerable vessels to register in the MSCIO’s Voluntary Registration Scheme (VRS).

Meanwhile, the maritime security firm Ambrey said the attack saw the suspects steal three small boats equipped with 60-horsepower engines. Ambrey said early Tuesday “a suspected pirate action group has been sighted departing” off the coast of Eyl.
