The Port Authority of Almería (APA) in Spain is conducting a study to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the ferries that operate within the port’s territorial waters.
Specifically, the study aims to play its role in reducing shipping emissions into the atmosphere and achieve a more sustainable port area.
The port follows the path of the European Community and its goal towards climate neutrality by 2050. Back in summer 2019, July, Ursula von der Leyen announced the new EU agenda, presenting EU’s targets in line with a sustainable future. The Commission President ‘vowed’ to make Europe the first climate neutral continent by 2050, boosting growth-friendly economies and following the rule of law.
Now, the Spanish Port awarded the company Engineering Procedures for Industry and Energy the technical assistance for the assessment and study of the supply of LNG to ferries, for an amount of 10,587 euros. For its part, the Security Division of the Port Authority carries out a security study, prior to the start-up of the service.
In order to carry out the service next summer, the APA will modify the current manholes, as well as the fire fighting facilities.
