Shell has confirmed sources reporting that there was an incident on Prelude construction site last week leading to a small fire. However, the oil major said the incident would not have an impact on the delivery schedule of the project.
Reuters reported that Shell has declined to reveal the timetable or the budget for Prelude, based on a giant processing vessel being built in Samsung Heavy Industries’ Geoje shipyard that will be towed to a gas field off the west Australia coast.
Recently, another incident involving LNG production facilities owned by major oil companies also reported. Specifically, Chevron on July 1 suspended production at Australia’s Gorgon liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility after a leak to perform minor repair work on a low pressure flare system.
Shell took an initial investment decision for Prelude FLNG project on May 20, 2011.
Once the project delivered, the facility will measure 488 meters from bow to stern and will weigh around 600,000 tons when fully loaded. It will contain 260,000 tons of steel, and its deck area will be longer than four football fields.
Prelude FLNG facility will produce at least 5.3 million tonnes (mtpa) per annum of liquids.
