Singapore’s port authority announced that, from 2023, all new harbor craft must be fully electric or be capable of using B100 biofuel, or be compatible with net-zero fuels such as hydrogen.
By 2050, Singapore wants all harbor craft to operate with net-zero emissions.
The transition to a sustainable future will take time. We need to start now to achieve our 2050 net zero emissions targets.
…said Senior Minister of State for Transport Chee Hong Tat in a parliamentary address on Friday.
According to the minister, MPA Singapore has made good progress in supporting the electrification of harbour craft. Pilot programs for the port’s first full-electric ferry and first full-electric lighter craft are on schedule to begin this year.
“MPA is also working with terminal and harbour craft operators to pilot the implementation of charging stations. The first charging station will be deployed by Shell at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Singapore on Pulau Bukom by the first half of 2023 to support full-electric ferries owned and operated by Penguin International”, said Mr Chee Hong Tat.
This will form part of a larger charging infrastructure implementation masterplan, which the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore will roll out by 2025.
