SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce the distinguished shortlisted nominees for the inaugural Crew Welfare Awards, following an online nomination process, initiated a few months ahead of the 2022 Crew Welfare Week, a virtual event that will take place 21-24 June.
These prestigious awards aim to recognize organizations within the maritime industry that foster Crew Wellbeing & Sustainable Shipping. The online voting process has started at https://crewwelfareweek.com/awards/ where participants can cast their votes online up to 13th of May 2022. The winners will be the ones attracted the most online votes and the results will be announced on day 1 of the event, on June 21st .
Nominations shortlisted for the 2022 Crew Welfare Awards include the following organizations per award category:
Crew Welfare Tanker Operator Award
Open for nominations to any ship operator of oil or chemical tankers, or gas carriers that demonstrated Initiative, Best Practices and Excellence and in any aspect of crew welfare
- Columbia Shipmanagement has been nominated for committing to ‘I CARE’ philosophy prioritizing the physical and mental well-being of their Inclusive, Diverse and Tolerant crew. As the cornerstone of CSM’s values and vision, I CARE principles, policies and procedures are applied in every aspect of its operational programmes.
- Evergas Ship Management Pte Ltd. has been nominated for putting crew welfare as key priority, taking action towards. For example, the company reviews weekly KPIs for crew; has introduced mental well-being app to all its crew; has partners with charity; offers cashless medical benefits to all officers; makes contribution to crew welfare fund and; provides recreational facilities onboard.
- Fleet Management Limited has been nominated for having a dedicated team to ensuring the holistic well-being of seafarers. The team consists of professionals from diverse backgrounds, that reaches out to the seafarers and their families, ensuring emotional, social, and psychological support via daily calls, emails, social media, webinars, and magazines to fulfill Wellness at Sea’s mission.
- Prime Marine Management Inc. has been nominated for assisting seafarers and their families during the unprecedented humanitarian crises (both pandemic and Russian invasion of Ukraine) by providing medical and mental health support. The company, having high levels of empathy and responsibility for the seafarers’ welfare, is focused on supporting them by various means.
- Thome Group has been nominated for launching several programs to foster crew welfare globally. These are: the Officer in Office Program, TSM Privilege Card Program, TSM Recruit App, Thome Vaccination Program, Thome Crew Repatriation Program, Partners in Safety Program, Thome Group Maritime Risk Management Program and Thome Cadetship Program.
Crew Welfare Dry Bulk Operator Award
Open for nominations to any ship operator of bulk carriers, or general dry cargo vessels that demonstrated Initiative, Best Practices and Excellence in any aspect of crew welfare
- C Transport Maritime S.A.M has been nominated for investing in crew welfare and connectivity during these challenging times by providing their seafarers with 3Gb of free internet each month to ensure they can communicate with their families & loved ones.
- Campbell Shipping has been nominated for considering crew welfare as important as safety onboard. In this context, the company has created a reach out program for behavioral learning and wellbeing support to onboard seafarers. A position of Chief Culture Officer (CCO) was instituted in the firm to execute on this mission.
- Oldendorff Carriers has been nominated for focusing on crew welfare, giving priority to timely crew changes, supporting social life onboard by supplying free internet and investing in crew wellness and happiness, as part of its commitment to sustainability.
- Pacific Basin Shipping Limited has been nominated for putting crew welfare as a key priority. The company has launched the Ocean Technologies Learning Platform to enhance seafarers’ training and is among the first signatories of the Racial Diversity Charter introduced by the Hong Kong Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC).
- Thome Group has been nominated for launching several programs to foster crew welfare globally. Open for nominations to crew management company that demonstrated Initiative, Best Practices and Excellence and in any aspect of crew welfare
- Elvictor Group Inc. has been nominated for providing training and many incentives with the aim to build a career path for every individual onboard and ashore, focusing on their upskilling. Elvictor’s philosophy is to measure, with the help of its digitalized arsenal ecosystem, the areas of improvement of each seafarer separately.
- Magsaysay People Resources Corporation has been nominated for demonstrating resilience during the pandemic, taking many initiatives to support its seafarers. For example, the company implemented its Magsaysay Vaccine-Nation Program, inoculating 98% of its employees and 80% of its seafarers and provided quarantine facilities for repatriated Filipino seafarers.
- OSM Maritime Services, Inc. has been nominated for putting ‘Financial Literacy, Health & Wellness and Family Values’ as basic pillars of its strategy to support OSM seafarers and families during the pandemic. During 2021, OSM conducted several virtual talks, engagement activities, town halls and conferences and provided support to OSM seafarers on quarantine, especially those who tested positive.
- Seaspan Crew Management India Pvt Ltd has been nominated for supporting its employee during the pandemic. The company took considerable action to achieve low COVID -19 infection rate onboard; among others, it provided a dedicated 24/7 Radio Medical Advise and Wellness initiative and invested in communication and team-building events onboard to enhance social wellness at sea.
- Synergy Marine Group has been nominated for prioritizing mid-pandemic mental health with crew changeovers, Wellness Ambassadors and WeTeam initiatives. The Wellness Ambassadors play a vital role in supporting the WeTeam wellness program by promoting health and wellness on board.
Crew Welfare Service Provider Award
Open for nominations to any Service provider that delivered service which contributes towards improving crew welfare
- Mental Health Support Solutions has been nominated for raising awareness to employees to provide more support to mariners facing intense pressure amid the pandemic. The company provides professional psychological guidance and 24/7 mental health support and rings the bell to operators for the alarming increase in suicide incidents and mental health issues.
- Seafair has been nominated for improving crew wellbeing through promoting accessibility to jobs for all seafarers. Furthermore, Seafair has shown leadership in ensuring the wellbeing of seafarers in light of the Ukraine-Russia conflict by providing monetary, flight, and accommodation support to placed seafarers and their families.
- Seaways Psychology Services has been nominated for having a dedicated team of professional and experienced Clinical Psychologists and practitioners to provide the full range of services and interventions that support people for commercial vessels, cruise ships, superyachts and shore-side.
- ShipMoney has been nominated for revolutionizing maritime payments with the ‘ShipMoney eWallet’, a digital wallet based on Virtual Visa cards and physical Visa cards that enable crew members to receive their wages in real-time, 24/7, and use the card for purchases throughout the world, wherever Visa is accepted.
- WellAtSea has been nominated for its WellAtSea Program which is focused on mental resiliency, physical strength & health, and improved group dynamics and socialization. Through game play, a rewards system, and social platform, the program is currently equipped with 37 months of evidence-based content or more than 200 different engaging activities, physical exercises, and learning modules.
Crew Welfare Organisation Award
Open for nominations to any organization or association that planned, promoted and delivered any program fostering crew welfare with tangible results
- Australian Mariners Welfare Society has been nominated for its numerous achievements in providing welfare to seafarers and their families for over a century. AMWS supports international campaigns for seafarer welfare and offers educational scholarships and training opportunities for emerging seafarers who need financial support.
- ISWAN (International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network) has been nominated for helping numerous seafarers globally during the COVID-19 breakdown, providing humanitarian support to them and their families, through its Regional Program, SeafarerHelp, Relief Funds and Social Interaction Matters (SIM) Project.
- MASSA (Maritime Association of Ship Owners, Ship Managers and Agents) has been nominated for its significant contribution to facilitate crew changes and add value to the industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. MASSA is a non-profit Association of 30 big companies based in Mumbai that also runs two Academies.
- Sailors’ Society has been nominated for its Wellness at Sea Awareness Campaign, which uniquely supports not just seafarers, but their families and shore staff. The campaign aims to surround seafarers with care, supporting their wellbeing through the ‘Circle of Care’ approach that offers empowerment, support and community.
- The Mission to Seafarers has been nominated for its ‘WeCare’ programme that provides a suite of wellbeing courses to address seafarers’ mental health. Its objective is to safeguard seafarers’ welfare by addressing three important areas: money, communication, and relationships.
Crew Welfare Diversity & Inclusion Award
Open for nominations to any organization that planned/delivered a program or promoted in any way the Diversity & Inclusion agenda
- ECSA and ETF have been nominated for their ‘WESS project’, co-funded by the EU, which supports the work towards jobs, growth and competitiveness of the European shipping industry and involves the implementation of several activities to contribute to an attractive, smart and sustainable working environment in the shipping sector.
- International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has been nominated for launching the ICS ‘Maritime Diversity and Inclusion Charter’, an online tool for shipping companies to annually review their diversity and inclusion practices and create opportunities for all, irrespective of their gender, race, ethnic origin, nationality, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or religion.
- Maritime SheEO has been nominated for providing a platform that promotes the next generation of female maritime leaders. Recently, Maritime SheEO in collaboration with IMO & WISTA launched the Maritime SheEO Leadership Accelerator Programme to provide management knowledge and skills to empower women in the maritime industry.
- Maritime UK has been nominated for its ‘Diversity in Maritime’ programme with the aim to promote a fair, equal and inclusive UK maritime industry that embraces diversity. The programme works closely with the Maritime Skills Commission to ensure the UK maritime industry has a continuous pipeline of highly skilled, diverse people.
- The Seafarers’ Charity has been nominated for funding a new research to explore the welfare needs of women seafarers on cargo ships. The project will be carried out by the Seafarers’ International Research Centre at Cardiff University and will focus on women working on cargo ships.
Crew Welfare Personality & Leadership Awards
There are no nominees shortlisted for this Award. After consideration and review of a list of “Editor’s Pick” nominees, the SAFETY4SEA Team will announce the winners during the awards presentation. These are special category awards for any individual person that provided industry leadership and contributed towards crew welfare excellence throughout his/her career.
