The Panama Ship Registry will launch the ‘Electronic Ship Registration System (ESRS)’, a platform that will simplify the process of ship registration, consisting of Panama Maritime Authority’s General Directorate of Merchant Marine (Ship Registry) and General Directorate of Public Property registry of Ships (ownership titles and mortgage registration).
The Panama Maritime Authority announced of an international tender before the end of 2019, calling companies to provide the software.
According to the Registry, the basic steps of the registration – certificate of ship registration, cancellations, mortgage registration, ships and radios licenses, property and encumbrances certificates and discounts, name reservation and general documents for the vessel – will be available on the platform.

Moreover, the ESRS will have an electronic signature, so that all documents will be signed electronically.

The integration in a single platform will facilitate the procedure for the user, which is our prime goal.
Cigarruista added that the new platform will combine all systems in one, making ship registration user-friendly; The platform will be versatile in different languages. This new system will position us in the global era.
In addition, all methods of payment will be available, whereas users will be able to calculate the costs for each operation. The electronic issuance of the Apostille will facilitate the legalization procedures before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will increase the level of users’ satisfaction.
Also, the platform provides an online tracking system, according to which users will track the procedures executed and alerts will be sent by e-mail through the different stages of the registration process.
