A Singaporean ship was fined 40,000 yuan (or 6,000 US dollars) for illegally discharging garbage into the sea, a statement from Xinhua news agency reads citing local authorities.
On 20 December 2016, the ship ‘Tai Hung San, owned by Hua Xin Shipping PTE Ltd, illegally discharged household garbage into Baohujiao Beach in Wenchang City, in Hainan Province, southern China.
After the local maritime safety administration investigated the case, it punished the company with fines of 40,000 yuan, in accordance with China’s law on marine environment protection.
According to Xinhua, the company entrusted an agency to sign relevant legal documents with the local maritime safety administration, accepted punishment and paid the penalty last week.
