Fire kills one worker and injures seven working at Okpo shipyard

A second fire broke out ata Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering’s (DSME) yard in Okpo, South Korea leaving one shipyard worker dead and seven injured.
The Korea Times reports that the fire started in a tank on an 85,000-ton LPG carrier being built at DSME. Poison gas is believed to have killed the workman. Among the seven injured, one is in a critical condition. Police and firefighters said about 130 people were in the tank when the fire erupted. It took about an hour to extinguish.
This is the second fatal incident that struck DSME in less than three months. In August 24, 2015, a fire broke out in DSMEs Okpo Shipyard in Geoje where two workersdied and seven were injured. It was reported that the fire started while the workers were welding inside a hull of an LPG carrier,and apparently spread to one more newbuilding.
