Earlier this week, a seafarer lost his life during an accident at the Trondheim Port Authority’s facility in Orkanger, during cargo operations.
Norwegian media report that police were made aware of the accident at about 1345 hours, but the seafarer was declared dead 15 minutes later.
According to Trøndelag sheriff Tor Kristian Haugan, the man died as he was crushed during container loading operations.
The port’s equipment was not involved in the casualty, informed Trondheim’s port director, as the ship was handling its own cargo.
Now, an investigation has started into the incident, while the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority and the Norwegian Maritime Directorate have also been notified.
