Global maritime charity Sailors’ Society appointed Sara Baade as its new Chief Executive Officer, starting in September 2020, and welcomed Revd Hasna Khatun as port chaplain to its Southampton team, boosting women presence within the maritime sector.
Sara has experience in management and strategy policy and in leading an international welfare charity from her current role as CEO of The Army Families Federation.
Furthermore, Sara has worked as a senior civil servant for the Department of Business Innovation and Skills, a directorship at the charity UK Skills and substantial experience in investment banking.
Referring to her new role, Sailors’ Society’s Chair of Trustees, Peter Swift, commented that
We are delighted to have secured such a strong candidate to take over and build on Sailors’ Society work providing a lifeline for seafarers and their families around the world … Sara is admirably equipped for the challenging role of developing and building the Society while securing our sustainability in the current and future environment.
In addition, the Society welcomed Revd Hasna Khatun as a new port chaplain to its Southampton team.
An ordained Pioneer Minister, Hasna has held a number of faith-based roles over the years including most recently as Chaplain to Centenary Quay, Woolston. In the past she has also worked as a teacher and actor, and speaks several languages.
Sailors’ Society’s chairman, Peter Swift stated that
Hasna will be a great asset to our team, bringing a wealth of experience from her previous roles … Hasna will be able to provide vital support to help those in need and her linguistic skills are an added benefit in a role which will see her meet with seafarers from all over the world.
