Travel and insurance group Saga informed that it has experienced an elevated level of near-term cancellations for its cruises and tours because of the coronavirus epidemic. In fact, its passenger tour bookings fell about 20% in comparison to 2019.
The most significant impact was felt in recent weeks.
As Reuters reports, Saga had more cruise cancellations for departures in the near-term, as well as a lower level of bookings for departures, despite the fact that its two most recent departures had load factors of about 80%.
The evolution of Covid-19 and the impact this will have on full year earnings for 2020/21 cannot be predicted with any certainty at the current time
Nevertheless, Saga’s insurance business is expected to remain largely unaffected, with the company clarifying that underlying profit before tax is expected to be in line with expectations.
