Programme to be hosted by the Port of Barchelona
The 2014 GreenPort Congress programme will focus on ‘Improving communication between all port users’ and the GreenPort Cruise will provide valuable information on dealing with all matters relating to increasing passenger numbers at existing and new terminals.
Hosted by the Port of Barcelona, these are must attend events for all ports, port users and stakeholders who wish to work more closely with their fellow port users to reduce emissions and their port’s environmental footprint.
Discussion sessions, working groups and excellent networking opportunities will all be on the agenda at the Greenport Congress to be held at the World Trade Centre, Barcelona on 15-16 October 2014. The Port of Barcelona and the European Sea Ports Organisation have been instrumental in constructing this year’s programme and the 9th Greenport Congress will bring all port stakeholders together for the following sessions:
Customers’, users’ and stakeholders’ perception of a ‘green port’: Commercial and community stakeholders reflect on their expectations from a ‘green port’. To include shipowners, shippers, logistics providers, terminal operators, representatives from the local community and NGOs
Tools for green ports to respond to stakeholders’ expectations: Green logistics, hinterland connections, environmental footprint of port logistic chains, greening the infrastructure, incentives for green port users, communicating and report to stakeholders and the local community. Through three working groups, delegates will have the opportunity to discuss presentations from the Institute of Sustainability, Port of Barcelona, Siemens, Port Authority of Brest, Lorient & Saint-Malo, Port Metro Vancouver, Port of Los Angeles and Alfaport.
Global versus regional regulations and their impact on ports: Discussion and debate, in interview style, with representatives from European Commission and industry stakeholders on global versus regional conventions and their impact on ports. Topics to include port reception facilities, waste management, ship recycling, greenhouse gases, ballast water. Panellists confirmed so far include, Isabelle Ryckbost, Secretary General, ESPO, Lamia Kerdjoudj-Belkaid, Secretary General, FEPORT and Mikael Andersson, Product Manager, Kalmar Sweden.
Green ports meeting forthcoming challenges: Breaking down into three working groups on air quality, water quality and waste, presentations will be given by Baltic Ports Organisation, PEMA Environmental Committee, Royal HaskoningDHV, Port Authority of Barcelona, Euroshore, Stormwater Italia, Marina di Carrara Port Authority, Hamburg Port Authority, Genoa Port Authority and Tradebe Group.
Financing opportunities for green port projects: presentations on EC co-funding opportunities will be given by INEA (invited), European Investment Bank and Wilhelm Borchert.

Greenport Cruise Conference – 14 October 2014
With the increasing popularity of cruise holidays, ports are seeing a large increase in the number and size of passenger ships using their facilities and the local infrastructure is also required to cope with the influx of huge numbers of passengers at a time. The 2nd GreenPort Cruise conference will highlight the environmental and sustainability issues facing Cruise terminals across the world, and will include sessions on:
Onshore Power Supply (cold ironing) or LNG?: air emission regulations and retrofitting cruise ships to run on LNG, Cold ironing or LNG – a study of Mediterranean ports, energy saving and emissions reducing supply of power to cruise ships, The current onshore power project for cruise ships in Hamburg
Waste management: Waste reception facilities in MedCruise Ports, Waste and cargo residues collection and treatment, Waste reception: the choice of the port of Marseille, Waste management in the cruise port
Improving cruise ship terminals: Cruise facilities at Harlingen Port – a new cruise port, Improvements at Barcelona Port Cruise Terminal, Designing Miami cruise terminal
Port-City Interface panel discussion: How ports and cities work together to cope with the ever increasing numbers of passengers visiting cities via cruise ships. Panellists will include: Marta Citron, Head of Environmental Department, Venice Port Authority, Greta Marini, Strategic Advisor – Port City Community Affairs, AIVP, Carla Salvado, Manager, Strategy and Commercial, Cruise, Barcelona Port Authority.
