SEA\LNG has announced that the Port of Virginia has become the first port in the US to join the multi-sector industry coalition, which aims to accelerate the widespread adoption of LNG as a marine fuel.
As part of its commitment to improve its operations, the port is conducting a $700m expansion project to increase total container capacity by 40%, as well as enhance lifting and docking capabilities across its six terminals.
What is more, in March 2019, the port established a working group to analyze the benefit and scalability of LNG bunkers for maritime trade.

As for SEA\LNG, it gathers players from across the LNG marine value chain to mitigate obstacles to the adoption of LNG. It also advocates for collaboration, demonstration, and communication on key areas like regulation, emissions, infrastructure, and the economic case, aiming to provide the necessary confidence and demand for an effective and efficient global LNG value chain for 2020 and beyond.
This partnership will provide a great opportunity to accelerate the adoption of LNG as a marine fuel and continue the progress that has been made to offer a safe, mature, commercially viable, long-term pathway towards a zero-emissions shipping industry
SEA\LNG stated.
In addition, Peter Keller, Chairman, SEA\LNG, is very pleased with the addition of the Port of Virginia. H explained that the US has increased significantly its LNG export capacity since the industry was boosted in 2016, leading to developments in LNG bunkering capabilities on the East and West Coasts.
The Port of Virginia is the second North American port alongside the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, and the fifth global port along with the Port of Rotterdam, MPA Singapore, and Yokohama Kawasaki International Port Authority (YKIP), to join the coalition.
