The Port of Rotterdam launched a trial project that allows users to submit bunkering announcements digitally. This online procedure aims to replace the VHF announcements. The project targets a paperless bunkering, in order for the Port Authority to making bunkering more efficient.
Every year, vessels in Rotterdam refuel some 10 million m³ of bunker fuels. Parties bunkering in the port need to notify the port authority of this operation before the operation. These announcements are currently made via VHF, and the details for each operation is entered in the systems by hand.

The online submission automates these processes, leading to more efficiency and less possibilities for human error. This improves the reliability of the data.
In addition, the app has a link to the Customs Administration’s Maritime Single Window, which means that bunkering parties are only required to submit one bunkering announcement.
The Port of Rotterdam will launch the project along with VT Group, Unibarge, Titan LNG, FTS Hoftrans and Transnational Blenders.
