The Port of New York and New Jersey announced that it exceeded first-quarter 2018 record for cargo volume by 6.7%. The Port handled a total of 1,800,000 TEUs, while it also achieved a new first-quarter record for cargo handled by rail.
The Port of New York and New Jersey’s streak of record-setting months continued through the first quarter of 2019. The port handled an all-time record of about 1,800,000 TEUs during the first quarter of 2019.
This is a 6.7% rise over the same period in 2018. The port also reported a new first-quarter record for cargo handled by rail.

In addition, during March 2019, the port handled 585,083 TEUs, which are the most ever for that month, representing a 4% increase over the previous March record, set in 2018, of 572,572 TEUs.
Moreover, the March 2019 cargo growth was boosted by a 12% growth in export containers over March 2018. The port also set a new March record for cargo handled by rail by moving 58,877 containers, an increase of 11% over the previous record set in March 2018.
Finally, the record cargo volume handled enabled the port to keep its position as the busiest on the US East Coast.
