During 2018, port of Gdansk transhipped approximately all of the products that were transported in all Polish ports. Due to this, the port is approaching to the podium of the largest Baltic ports. In 2018, the port shipped more than 49 million tonnes, an increase of 20.7% is the highest growth dynamics on the Polish coast.
Mainly, the Port of Gdansk Authority ended 2017 with a historic record: 40.6 million tons of goods were transhipped – previously no Polish port had exceeded this barrier
In 2018, the port’s contractors transhipped 9 million tonnes of goods more than in 2017. This was accomplished as they used not only the old infrastructure but also they continued shipping on the ongoing construction work on the whole Port territory.
The President of the Port of Gdansk Authority, Lukasz Greinke, stated
The final result of transhipments in the Port of Gdańsk is almost 17 % higher than planned.
- The port experienced an increase in coal growth, as 7.2 million tonnes were transhipped, meaning 41% more than last year;
- In addition, general cargo increased by more than 18%- 21.5 million tonnes;
- For containers, approximately 20 million tons were transhipped in the Port of Gdansk, which corresponds to annual growth of 21%. Whereas in 2018, the port transhipped approximately 87.000 new commercial vehicles, 13% more than in 2017.
In 2018 we had 357 more arrivals than a year before.

In addition, the port experienced an increase in transhipments in fuels area.
- 2018: increase of 18% of fuels, meaning 15.5 million tonnes;
- Bulk cargo resulted to 3.9 million tonnes, almost 14% more than 2017.
Concluding, the Port of Gdansk finally moved from 6th to 4th position on the list of the largest ports in the Baltic Sea, ahead of Klaipeda port.
The port’s goal is to reach the third position.
