Hutchison Ports’ Port of Felixstowe, in the UK, upgraded its roll on – roll off facilities, with the new connection being the 36th daily service from the UK’s largest container port.
Specifically, UK’s Maritime Minister, Nusrat Ghani, paid a visit to the port, inspecting the site of work.
This new upgrade will enable the port to accommodate larger ro/ro vessels and enhance the efficiency of vessel operations.
Other destinations served by rail from the Port of Felixstowe are: Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Teesport, Birmingham, Birch Coppice, Doncaster, Selby, Hams Hall, Wakefield, Ditton (Widnes), Rotherham, iPort Rossington and Cardiff.
During the Minister’s visit, Clemence Cheng, Chief Executive Officer at the Port of Felixstowe and Executive Director of Hutchison Ports, stated that
The port is already Brexit-ready and the improvements that we are starting today, coupled with additional trailer parking that has already been completed, will enhance capacity, capability and performance for Ro/Ro traffic at Felixstowe.
He added that their aim is to keep on improving the port’s containerised capability and are ready to cater for increases in trade with the rest of the world as a result of new trade deals struck following their exit from the EU.
Concluding, the upgrade includes the lengthening of the ports No.3 Ro/Ro berth and the replacement of the current hydraulic ramp at No.4 Ro/Ro berth with a larger floating linkspan.
