MOL Comfort fire is still out of control
MV MOL Comfort which caught fire in Arabian Sea on Saturday, now pose the threat of leakage of hazardous substance from the containers on board, The Hindu reports
The Indian Coast Guard, which is monitoring the fire-fighting operation, has directed the company to tow away the ship from Mumbai, to ensure least environment impact on the west coast. According to sources in Coast Guard, the ship is likely to cross the Indian sea border by Tuesday night. It is headed towards Oman.
According to MOL’s latest update on the accident, due to adverse weather affecting the fire fighting effort, the fire is not yet under control.
Observations show that most of the containers on deck have been burnt out, while we have not been able to confirm the situation in the cargo hold.
The fire fighting effort and monitoring of the situation will continue.
