IMPA Congress on September 24th, London
The highlight of the International Maritime Pilotage calendar, the International Maritime Pilots Association (IMPA) Congress, will be launched by a keynote speech from the Secretary General of IMO, Koji Sekimizu at the opening ceremony on September 24th in London.
The 21st IMPA congress is being held in London for the first time in IMPA’s 40 year history and over a 5 day period technical, operational and political developments in the pilotage profession will be discussed and debated.
Despite more than 200 delegates from over 30 nations in attendance and considerable support from the international maritime industry, the UK ports industry have largely chosen to ignore the benefit of first hand contact with a large group of practising maritime experts. Surprising in today’s competitive world economy which is totally dependent on safe and efficient shipping and port operations.
The notable exception is the Port of London Authority who are making the most of the opportunity of having this prestigious event in their bailiwick.
Captain Mike Watson President of IMPA and the American Pilots Association commented on the forthcoming event…”I am looking forward to the opportunity to examine a number of issues facing us and exchange experiences. I want to commend the UKMPA for the organisation they have put into
