A worker on the Tern Alpha platform, off Shetland, developed symptoms of the new coronavirus Covid-19. The worker had recently returned from holiday in Thailand. Platform operator Taqa said the worker is being kept in isolation as a precautionary measure.
The North Sea worker is expected to be in isolation from his colleagues until test results are known, while a testing kit is being flown to the platform. He is also being attended to by the medic on board the platform.
In addition, health officials in the west of Scotland are launching procedures to test people at home if they have symptoms of the Covid-19.

Namely, according to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC), staff from its public health team would be attending people’s homes in protective suits to carry out the testing and offering advice to anyone displaying symptoms.
However, Deputy Director of Public Health Dr Emilia Crighton added that the risk of catching this illness in the UK is extremely low and only those returning from at risk areas, or people in contact with someone diagnosed with the illness are at risk.
The new coronavirus has cost the lives of 2,247 people, while confirmed cases exceed 76,000. What is more, except from China, coronavirus cases have been reported in other countries in Asia, such as Malaysia and Japan, in Australia, Germany, France, the US and Canada among others.
