New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced plans to create Offshore Wind Training Institute to offer offshore wind training programs. In fact, the institute will provide benefits to workers across New York State through new job training programs, tailored college curriculum as well as enhanced academic research opportunities.
The Governor outlined that SUNY Farmingdale and Stony Brook will formally ask for partners for its $20 million Offshore Wind Training Institute, so that training can begin in 2021.

New York will further create an industry-driven green jobs training program with the aim to address the need for an energy workforce. Notably, New York State will also invest an additional $40 million, for a total investment of $100 million, over the next five years with the aim to build a talent pipeline of clean energy workers and provide the existing workforce with opportunities to enhance their skills.
What is more, Parks and DEC will partner with Hudson Valley Community College, Alfred State University, Excelsior Corps and Job Corps to create a Solar Energy Corps to train students to install solar energy equipment.

Atlantic Offshore Terminals is establishing Arthur Kill Terminal project in Staten Island and New York as the hub of the US offshore wind industry.
Arthur Kill Terminal is the only viable unrestricted port site in New York where turbines can be assembled onshore, allowing for the use of the most efficient vessels and installation methods to transport and install the turbines offshore.
Arthur Kill Terminal is optimally located to serve offshore wind projects throughout the New York Bight and the East Coast.
It was in August when the Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA) and the Power for America Training Trust Fund (P4A) announced the launch of an apprenticeship program that will provide training for renewable energy jobs, including those for offshore wind. Through the Department of Labor (DOL)-certified program, participants will be provided with expertise and skills to be active at the forefront of the offshore and onshore wind, solar generation and battery storage fields.
The earn-while-you-learn program will help students earn a salary and take advantage of the benefits during their two-and-a-half-year attendance.
