The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced that the agency will participate in the International Conference on Managing Fatigue, to be held on 20-23 March in San Diego, which will focus on fatigue, and its impact on safety. In particular, the main discussions will concentrate on the theme, “Managing Fatigue to Improve Safety, Wellness, and Effectiveness.”
The conference series provides a forum for research updates and discussions among members of the fatigue management community. NTSB notes that fatigue is cited as either a probable cause, contributing factor or finding in 20 percent of its major investigations. The NTSB has issued more than 200 safety recommendations to address the problem of fatigue in transportation.
As an advocate for the reduction of fatigue-related transportation accidents, the National Transportation Safety Board will have a robust presence at the conference with employees participating in panel discussions and a keynote address by National Transportation Safety Board Member Christopher Hart, whose tenure as the agency’s Chairman ended Wednesday.
