From 5 to 8 February 2018, the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) conducted an audit of Norske Shell and the company’s management of technical barriers at the “Draugen” platform and found four non-conformities.
PSA conducted the audit to verify how Shell is ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements linked to technical barriers and maintenance at Draugen.
The audit covered themes regarding:
- Organisation, roles and responsibilities;
- Management of barriers and maintenance;
- Operational procedures/work processes;
- Planning and execution of work;
- Change and deviation management;
- Modification projects.

Once concluded, the audit discovered four non-conformities, which regard:
- Process fires;
- Performance requirements;
- Firewater system;
- Warning and notification of hazard and accident situations.
Moreover, the audit found also points that have been improved, and are the following:
- Firefighting using fixed CO2 extinguishing systems;
- Passive fire protection;
- Reporting and follow-up of barriers in the maintenance system;
- Automatic firewater deluge in the event of confirmed gas detection;
- Norske Shell has been given a deadline of 31 May 2018 to report on how the non-conformities and improvement points will be addressed.
