After her christening, the ‘Frigg W’ the first in a series of four new multi-purpose vessels of Dutch breakbulk shipping line Cargow is now in operation between Rotterdam, Norway and Reydarfjördur, Iceland. Portvlogger Steven was allowed to travel with the maiden trip and spoke to the four owners.
The main freight for this scheduled service is Icelandic aluminium, which will be transported to Rotterdam in weekly shipments. All in all, the annual cargo flow amounts to nearly 1 million tonnes. The vessels also offer room for project cargo and 100-TEU reefer containers.
The four new vessels are more sustainable than the vessels they will be replacing. The new series is being built at the Taizhou Sanfu Ship Engineering Co. shipyard in Taizhou, China.
The Frigg W was christened on Wednesday, 31 January, during a launch ceremony at Rotterdam’s Wilhelminakade.
