Kühne Logistics University (KLU) and Hapag-Lloyd announced the launch of the Hapag-Lloyd Center for Shipping and Global Logistics (CSGL). The centre, focusing on maritime logistics, aims to promote the discourse between international research and the shipping industry.
The aim of the centre is:
- The combination of academic research along with practical methods;
- Understanding of the shipping and container transport;
- The development of the competition of the field;
- The rise of Hamburg as a global maritime knowledge hub.
The establishment of the centre is the university’s plan to announce themselves as associates of the maritime industry. In the meantime the private university will continue its work in globalisation, as Thomas Strothotte, PhD, President of the KLU, highlighted at the opening ceremony.
Moreover, Karl Gernandt, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at KLU and Executive Chairman of Kü̈hne Holding AG, supported that the centre would not have been as successful as it is without the news centre of the industry.
Rolf Habben Jansen, Chief Executive Officer at Hapag-Lloyd, added that the the global container shipping is facing challenges, as the development of digitalization, the upcoming IMO2020 and possible restrictions of free world trade due to new customs barriers. He wishes CSGL to bring new scientific researches in favour of the industry.
Finally, CSGL is led by Professor Michele Acciaro. The ceremony attended experts from many fields, such as politicians and economists.
