Officials in California are investigating a new pipeline leak in San Pedro Bay, near the congested ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
Namely, California’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response confirmed that DCOR, LLC has been identified as a responsible party after reports of sheens off Bolsa Chica State Beach, near Huntington Beach.
USCG was first alerted on December 15, informed about a half-mile offshore near Bolsa Chica State Beach. However the source of the sheen could not be determined.
A little later, on December 22nd, a new sheen was reported offshore of Bolsa Chica State Beach. This prompted a closer inspection and clean-up of tarballs that had washed ashore near Huntington Beach and Dog Beach.
On December 25, the Office of Spill Prevention and Response confirmed that DCOR had been named a responsible party. The observed sheens are located near DCOR’s pipeline, Pipeline 0919, which runs from the Platform Eva, although no sheen has been observed since December 23rd.
Divers are expected to inspect the pipeline on December 28, while in the meantime, crews are continuing to monitor for additional sheens and the line has been shutdown.
