Magsaysay Maritime Corporation announced that the MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy (MMMA) was officially inaugurated on September 12, 2018 in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, Philippines.
The Academy has a full college program for Filipinos and other students from the region. The curriculum aims to increase the students’ competencies, as needed by the global shipping industry.
The Academy is located on a 13.7-hectares facility which houses a Ship-In Campus, Student Complex, Academic Building, and Student Dormitory.
These facilities attempt to provide students with real-life working environments, new facilities, and a curriculum meeting the demands of the changing maritime industry.
MMMA is a non-stock, non-profit joint venture between MOL, and Magsaysay Maritime Corporation and aims to have its first 350 students ready for cadetship by 2021. Half of the students will serve on MOL’s ships and the other half on Magsaysay’s Principals’ vessels.
Named as M/V Spirit of MMMA, the five-storey Ship-In Campus is equipped with simulators, 2-stroke main engine, generator, deck and engine workshop, mooring and windlass machine and olympic-size swimming pool.
MMMA offers two degrees:
- Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation leading to a profession as a Marine Deck Officer to Master;
- Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering leading to a profession as a Marine Engineer to Chief Engineer.
