MV HELLESPORT CHARGER reported to have lost main engine propulsion
The Naval Service vesselLÉ Aisling, has responded to a request from the Coast Guard to provide assistance to a stricken vessel, the MV HELLESPORT CHARGER (MV) off the West coast.
The MV was reported to have lost main engine propulsion 100 nm west of Loop Head, Co Clare although it is not in any immediate danger.
The LÉ Aisling reached the MV in the early hours of the morning and the vessels are currently on route to the Shannon estuary. The MV is under tow with the tug boat THRAX. The MV vessel is expected to arrive in port at between 5-6 pm later today.
The weather conditions are described as rough to moderate with poor visibility. Due to the size of the vessel the maximum speed of travel is estimated to be three knots p/h.
