Mundra Port in Gujarat has become the first Indian port to handle 200 MMT in a single year.
The port handled 200.7 million metric tons (MMT) of cargo during FY25, according to a filing with stock exchanges. As reported, the surge was largely driven by a 19% increase in container cargo and a 5% rise in liquid and gas shipments.
Container handling operations at the port set new records, while liquid cargo throughput reached its highest levels in over a decade. The West Basin which is a key operational hub within Mundra Port, played a crucial role by achieving high volumes.
Furthermore, bulk cargo handling saw improvements, with the port setting a new benchmark for the fastest vessel discharge.
India has been focused on strengthening its maritime sector, with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) initiating projects valued at ₹2 trillion (approximately 23 billion US dollars).
The ministry has also set a target to complete at least 150 of these projects by September 2025. Additionally, India and Singapore are set to collaborate on maritime digitalisation and decarbonisation initiatives, working together to identify key stakeholders and formalize their partnership through a memorandum of understanding.
