On 5 December, MSC officially launched its new private island called “Ocean Cay”, and welcomed its first guests, passengers of the cruise ship MSC Divina. The “Ocean Cay” is considered to be a tropical destination located in the Bahamas, offering privacy for each guest.
For the establishment of the island, MSC collaborated with environmental engineers in order to not harm the surrounding area and the marine life, as with the aid of the experts, MSC returned the industrial sand excavation into a tropical destination.
Ocean Cay is founded on a deep commitment to ecological principles – beliefs that shape everything from how venues are built, to how the island is run, to the kinds of activities featured on the island. Having the first guests arrive on the island is a moment of great pride for all of us at MSC Cruises.
…said MSC Cruises executive chairman Pierfrancesco Vago.

Moreover, the “Ocean Cay” involves white sand beaches, cabanas, water sports, catamaran tours, VIP satellite island and a spa. As the MSC noted, the company did also an extensive work in order to clean-up the island, while it has removed tones of the existed industrial waste in the area.
However we have undertaken extensive work to clean-up the island, removing tons of historic industrial waste and helping to return the beaches and the entire 64 square miles of protected waters surrounding the island to their pristine state.
…the MSC Cruises CEO Gianni Onorato noted.
For the records, the project took about 3 years to be finished, while during the cleaning process 7,500 tons of scrap metal were removed. About 75,000 plants and shrubs were planted through the area of the island, in order to create a biodiverse and sustainable environment.
Concluding, “Ocean Cay” it’s MSC’ second big development, following the launch of its largest ship “MSC Meraviglia”. Previously this year, MSC got an approval for new cruise terminal at Port of Miami.
