Alastair Marsh, Lloyd’s Register’s CEO, signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) during Singapore Maritime Week. The first concerns research and development (R&D), intelligent systems for real time condition monitoring, unmanned systems and robotics for operations, maintenance and inspections and emerging areas, such as 3D printing.
The second MoU, signed between LR, MPA, Alpha Ori Technology Holdings Pte. Ltd, Singapore and the Technology Centre for Offshore & Marine, Singapore (TCOMS), acknowledges the agreement to set up a Centre Of Innovation (COI) for SMARTShip Technology. The COI’s efforts will be focused on projects related to smart shipping, advanced data analytics, and cyber security etc.
Commenting on the MoU signings, LR CEO Alastair Marsh said: “Today represents yet another step in LR’s commitment to the region, in particular to advance technology innovation especially in the areas of digital, big data and intelligent systems, unmanned systems and robotics, as well as to enhance safety, cyber/physical security and unlock economic and productivity enhancements for the maritime and marine sector.”
Mr Marsh also noted that sees a big digital potential in Singapore for the marine and offshore industry.
