Realistic scenarios to train Vessel Traffic Management Officers in a risk-free environment
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s (MPA) Chief Executive Mr Andrew Tan commissioned the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) Simulator at the Port Operations Control Centre (POCC) Vista on 27 March 2015.
To further enhance the realism and effectiveness in the training and assessment of our Vessel Traffic Management Officers, MPA has engaged Transas Marine Pacific Pte Ltd to provide a Vessel Traffic Service Simulator comprising five consoles as a training platform for our officers.
The simulator provides the full functionality of a Vessel Traffic System operator workplace. It uses the latest Vessel Traffic Information System equipped with simulated configurations in the Radar and Very High Frequency Base Stations, Automatic Identification System (AIS), and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).
It can also imitate ship movements and environmental conditions in a waterway similar to the actual conditions. This allows the instructors to create areas with different navigational situations, control target ships and generate various training scenarios and tasks.
The introduction of the Vessel Traffic Service Simulator will further boost the quality and efficiency of maritime training conducted in Singapore. It offers varied and realistic scenarios to train our Vessel Traffic Management Officers in a risk-free environment.
