The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) has launched dredging works at Doha Port concerning its aim to grow all ports country wide and preserve their infrastructure in order to accommodate largest cruise ships in the future.
Namely, MoTC is pursuing to boost Doha Port’s capacity. As a result, the capital city will grow and be amongst the world’s top cruise ship tourism destinations, as stated by MoTC.
According to Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalid Al Thani, Director of Technical Affairs, MOTC, the dredging project will provide a better place for the port by accommodating bigger cruise ships.

Also, he continued stating that the project will bring economic benefits to the port and the companies surrounding it, such as hotels, restaurants, retailing and service sectors as well as the tourist landmarks of Qatar.
Moreover, Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalid Al Thani, Director of Technical Affairs, MOTC stated that the project
contributes to the Qatar National Vision 2030 and assists in achieving the goals of the Qatar National Tourism Sector Strategy 2018-2023 that aims to place Qatar among the world’s best tourism locations
The project, which will help the port receive supersize cruise ships in the future, will be a top feature during the events of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Sheikh Mohamed noted.
The MoTC had earlier awarded the dredging and expansion contract to a consortium that includes Middle East Dredging Co (Medco) and the Belgian Jan De Nul, which will use two of the world’s largest dredgers to clear up to 3.5mn cubic metres of material in the approach channel.
