Novatek, MOL and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) inked a Cooperation Agreement to confirm their intentions to proceed to projects for the construction of a marine LNG transshipment complexes in the territory of Kamchatka and Murmansk region, across the Northern Sea Route.
The partners will develop floating storage units (FSUs) to tranship LNG cargoes from ice-breaking LNG ships to conventional LNG ships.
The FSUs will be placed in Kamchatka and in Murmansk and will be used for the transhipment of LNG cargoes produced by Novatek’s Yamal LNG Project and Arctic LNG 2 Project, two of the largest gas developments in the world.
In light of the collaboration, Leonid Mikhelson, NOVATEK’s Chairman of the Management Board commented
We have already started successful cooperation with Japanese companies in large LNG projects, including Yamal LNG and Arctic LNG 2, and, accordingly, we see great potential in expanding further this mutually beneficial cooperation.
He further stated that the constructions in the two areas will help the partners to optimize logistics and improve the efficiency of LNG deliveries from Yamal and Gydan to LNG key markets of the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan.
