Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has become the first Japanese company to join the board of the Book and Claim Community (BCC), an environmental initiative focused on decarbonizing international logistics.
The BCC aims to develop the “Book and Claim” methodology, which promotes reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through a token-based system, encouraging global collaboration among companies working toward decarbonization.
According to BCC, Book and claim systems promote alignment with international, national, and/or industrywide standards and principles to facilitate data comparability and promote the exchange of information to mitigate risks (i.e., double counting) and to facilitate reporting and accountability.
MOL joins other major global companies, including Meta, NORDEN, and UPS, as new board members of the BCC, alongside founding members such as Amazon, Deloitte, DHL, Microsoft, Shell, and World Energy.
MOL plans to leverage its expertise in shipping and logistics to contribute to the group’s decarbonization efforts. This initiative aligns with MOL’s broader sustainability goals, as outlined in its “MOL Sustainability Plan,” and reflects the company’s commitment to resolving environmental challenges while promoting global growth.
