Measuring UK’s emergency response capabilities
The British Ministry of Defense has asked Mammoet Salvage to participate in its Oil Spill Recovery exercise DRAGON’, which took place on September 12-13 of this year.
The goal of the exercise was to measure the country’s emergency response capabilities in dealing with a major oil spill in national waters. For this purpose, all relevant national authorities, ENI and several international companies and organizations, had been invited to play out – in real time – a developing disaster scenario.
In the game, an ENI operated OSI, based in Liverpool bay was to experience an explosion with subsequent release of large quantities of oil.
Mammoet’s experience and expertise in Emergency Response and Oil spill came into play in advising the operator and the authorities on how to safely stabilize and salvage the OSI.
The exercise was very life like and mimicked an actual event quite convincingly. This type of drill always leaves all parties with important lessons learned and ideas for the future.
