The Lloyd’s Register announced launch of the Safety Accelerator programme to remove barriers preventing industry uptake of cutting-edge safety and risk solutions. The LR Safety Accelerator will bring together technology companies and industry to test innovative digital solutions to critical safety and risk challenges.
As explained, the Safety Accelerator will work with key industry players to identify areas of operation with the most significant challenges to safety and risk. Technology businesses seeking an application for existing digital solutions will be invited to apply for funding to trial these products in an industrial environment, through the accelerator collaborators.
The programme will focus entirely on enhancing the safety of life and property at sea, on land and in the air. Within this, it may from time to time concentrate on specific industries (e.g. Marine, Oil & Gas) or specific themes (e.g. cyber security, risk analytics, computer vision for human safety). Human safety on-board has been selected as the first safety challenge theme; applications addressing this challenge area will open in Summer 2018.
The Safety Accelerator will support industry business partners by offering opportunity to focus digital innovation on key business challenges, support for trialling new solutions in a de-risked environment with early adoption opportunities, and access to innovative new technologies and start ups.
Lloyd’s Register Foundation – a charitable foundation helping to protect life and property by supporting engineering-related education, public engagement and the application of research – will provide funding for the programme.
