The Libyan Coast Guard arrested a Greece-operated oil tanker, which was suspected of trying to smuggle oil out of the country, on August 28, local media reported.
The Liberian-flagged, 149-meters long “Levante” was seized off Zawia, trying to smuggle approximately 6,000 tons of oil, and was taken it to Tripoli, according to a navy spokesman.
When arrested, the ship was carrying 20 crew members on board, mostly of Filipino origin, who are now detained in the north African country.
The navy informed that an investigation on the case was underway.
