Korean Register (KR) has granted approval in principle (AiP) for the methanol dual-fuel retrofit design of a 16,000 TEU containership owned by Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM).
In general, methanol is gaining traction as a cleaner and more sustainable fuel option in the maritime industry. The container shipping sector, particularly exemplified by companies like Maersk, Evergreen, and CMA CGM, continues to show significant interest in methanol as a fuel.
According to KR, this container ship was developed in collaboration with HD HYUNDAI MARINE SOLUTION, HD Hyundai E&T, and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd. (HD KSOE).
KR is committed to the goals of digitalization and decarbonization, and we will continue collaborating closely with our partners to achieve world-class competitiveness.
