The Korean government and the United Nations have agreed to form a partnership to work on developing ports across Latin America and East Asia. Currently, many ports in those regions face capacity challenges due to a lack of infrastructure, despite rapid economic growth and a growing volume of cargo. The government is also currently running an educational program with the Ecuadorian government that covers marine product hygiene.
As part of the partnership, the ministry will first help to organize an international seminar on port development that will be held at UNESCAP headquarters in Thailand this coming December. Local media reports that during the seminar, Korea’s experience and expertise at developing container terminals, bulk terminals and other port facilities will be shared and discussed among attendees, experts and interested parties from some 20 countries.
As it moves toward sharing Korea’s port expertise with UNESCAP, the ministry aims at improving cargo flows across the region and to further contribute to global economic growth worldwide, the ministry said.
Meanwhile , the Korean government has been running an educational program in Korea for the government of Ecuador that covers marine product hygiene.
