Korea lines announced they have ordered the construction of two very large ore carriers (VLOC) at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), according to Yonhap news agency.
The new VLOCs are expected to have been delivered by the first quarter of 2020 and they are considered the largest of Korea Line’s fleet. The total amount of the agreement will amount at $184m.
The new vessels are set to transfer iron ore for the Brazilian miner ‘Vale’, according to a ‘contracts of affreightment’ (CoA) deal, which will last up to 25 years.
Specifically, Vale recently ordered 30 VALEMAX newbuilds from seven shipping companies, sources say.
Under this deal, Korea Line will provide two 400,000 DWT bulkers. Furthermore, ICBC Leasing and China Merchants will be providing ten 400,000 DWT bulkers, while South Korean shipping company Pan Ocean will contribute 4 Valemax newbuilds. From their part, H Line Shipping, and SK Shipping each will provide two 400,000 DWT bulkers.
Finally, Polaris Shipping will contribute to this deal with ten newbuilds. Recently, in 23rd of October, the company ordered 15 ‘green’ VLOCs at HHI.
