Representatives from NYK Line, Penta Ocean Construction Company, Onno Associates and Japan Marine Science, recently visited the Alang-Sosiya ship recycling yards in Bhavnagar to evaluate the yards infrastructure and explore potential business opportunities in the ship recycling industry.
As explained, during their visit, the delegation also visited the Bansal ship recycling yard, which is renowned for its eco-friendly and efficient ship recycling practices, and interacted with the Ship Recycling Industries Association (India).
The Alang-Sosiya ship recycling yards, like other South Asian yards, carry out recycling operations in intertidal zones. These yards represent a significant portion of the world’s ship recycling capacity, both in terms of volume and the size of ships that can be recycled. The Alang yards has been operational since 1983 and has played a crucial role in India’s economy.
India is actively promoting sustainable ship recycling practices, and this visit by the Japanese delegation has the potential to pave the way for future collaborations and partnerships in the industry. As India continues to position itself as a global leader in eco-friendly ship recycling practices, the visit underscores the potential for growth and expansion in the sector.
