The three remaining Filipino seafarers from the Portuguese-flagged MSC Aries, which was seized in April, have been released by Iranian authorities, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has announced.
The container ship MSC Aries was seized by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz on April 13 for “violating maritime laws,” according to Iran’s foreign ministry. The ship had a total crew of 25, including four Filipinos.
Previously, the Portuguese Government announced that seven crew members of the MSC Aries were released on May 9.
DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac shared the news at a forum in Quezon City, confirming that the seafarers have returned home.
“The good news is that, although we didn’t announce it publicly at first, the three remaining seafarers from the MSC Aries, which was seized by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the Strait of Hormuz, are now back home,” Cacdac said.
