A new interactive shipping map, developed by the WPCI (World Ports Climate Initiative) depicts the status of bunkering activities in WPCI ports as well as non WPCI ports.
LNG is currently available as a bunker fuel for maritime and inland shipping at the WPCI ports of Antwerp, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Zeeburgge and Stockholm. Both the number of merchant ships using LNG and the number of ports where LNG is available will increase significantly in the coming years. The ports working together under the umbrella of WPCI are actively pursuing LNG as a fuel and will develop bunkering facilities for seagoing and inland vessels in a safe way.
Focusing on the use of LNG as a marine fuel, an “LNG Fuelled Vessels Working Group” has been established under the auspices of IAPH’s World Ports Climate Initiative (WPCI). The Working Group has developed guidelines on safe procedures for LNG bunkering operations, providing ports around the world with implementation guidelines to pursue this technology.
