ReCAAP ISC has issued Infographic to depict the status of maritime piracy during the first half of 2016.
ReCAAP ISC notes that during January- June 2016, sea robberies on board ships while underway had decreased dramatically (Decrease by 64% compared to 2015), while no hijacking of tankers for theft of cargo oil have been reported.
Specifically, the amount of sea robberies on board ships while underway has decreased in a degree that is the lowest in overall numbers among a 5-year period.
However, ReCAAP advises shipping industry to report all incidents immediately to coastal/flag State and ReCAAP Focal Points, exercise enhanced vigilance and adopt best practices as recommended in the “Regional guide to counter piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia.
