EOS Risk Group, a global security company, issued an infographic to depict the piracy activity for 2016, in Gulf of Guinea and in the wider Nigerian area.
EOS Risk notes that the Gulf of Guinea continues to be one of the most dangerous bodies of water globally for merchant shipping. Armed pirates from the Niger Delta have been responsible several times for attacking commercial ships throughout the wider region, conducting armed robberies, stealing oil and abducting crew for ransom.
