6.9m Kappel propeller should deliver ‘a fuel saving of 4% together with a reduced level
Great Eastern Shipping Company (GESCO) of Mumbai, India contracted MAN Diesel & Turbo’s PrimeServ retrofit team to refit the propeller onboard M/TJag Lavanya – a Samsung-built 105 000dwt crude oil carrier from 2004.
According to Christian Wollerup Sørensen, sales manager, MAN Diesel & Turbo, the new 6.9m Kappel propeller should deliver ‘a fuel saving of 4% together with a reduced level of pressure impulses to hull – and without adding any other, efficiency-improving devices’.
The propeller will be delivered by MAN’s production partner in China, Dalian Marine Propeller, in January 2014. This partnership will also provide a series of 7.2m Kappel propellers for the world’s largest car carriers to be built by Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry, China.
