The Director General of Shipping in India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sailors‘ Society aimed at strengthening welfare services for the maritime sector in India.
As part of this collaboration, the MoU outlines the adoption of Sailors’ Society’s 24/7 support and services for seafarers and cadets. Shri Shyam Jagannathan, the Director General of Shipping in India, said that the partnership with Sailors’ Society will bring valuable resources and support to the maritime community in India.
Jagannathan continued by commenting that the MoU aligns with the Directorate’s broader initiative to enhance seafarers’ welfare and safety standards and is poised to positively impact the Indian maritime industry.
By leveraging Sailors’ Society’s expertise, the collaboration will ensure more robust welfare systems, particularly in mental health support, crisis management and education for maritime personnel, strengthening welfare services for the maritime sector in India.
