The International Council on Combustion Engines (CIMAC) has been officially granted consultative status with the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Earlier this year, CIMAC had submitted its application. Rick Boom (Woodward), CIMAC President, expressed satisfaction over the success of their application, highlighting their anticipation to enhance CIMAC’s contributions in large engines, power, drives, and propulsion to IMO. He believed CIMAC’s expertise could significantly aid in achieving IMO’s objectives.
There are still many opportunities to optimize the status quo in shipping. Just think of efficiency gains through digitalization, for example. We want to encourage the maritime industry to embrace digitalization and implement it. We hope that closer cooperation can contribute to faster implementation.

Peter Müller-Baum, CIMAC Secretary General, stated that CIMAC’s focus within IMO would be on digitalization, non-shaftline propulsion, automation, and system integration. He expressed confidence in their members’ expertise in these areas and pledged CIMAC’s commitment to supporting the International Maritime Organization in their new responsibilities.
