The Global Ports Holding (GPH) has just started cruise operations in the port of Antigua, following their signing agreement with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda on February 1, 2019.
The Port of Antigua is a key port when it comes to cruise operations as it mainly serves as a transit port and also has the chance for turnaround cruise operations, predominantly for European cruise brands.
For the following years, GPH and its team will be responsible for providing cruise services both at the port in St John’s and to the ships that anchor near Falmouth Harbour. The company will furthermore invest about $45-50 million in the first year of operation to improve and boost the port’s shopping market.
Another project, will be the construction of a new pier to enable St John’s accommodation in cruise vessels, able to berth the largest, 5,000+ passenger vessels in the industry. In 2018, the port hosted approximately 800,000 cruise passengers.
I am delighted that we are starting cruise port operations in Antigua. This agreement marks a significant milestone for GPH and Antigua and Barbuda and is a further endorsement of our operating capabilities and the enefits we can bring to cruise destinations, for passengers and the local population in the Caribbean.
… stated the CEO of GPH, Emre Sayin.
The GPH is announcing a variety of port projects and expansions; In September GPH signed an agreement with Nassau Cruise Port, according to which GPH will be managing Nassau Cruise Port.
